FAQs

Q

Will we qualify?

A

Only PSAS can answer that question. Our financial aid is based on need only. PSAS determines your need based on the information given to them. Many factors are considered including household salary, income tax return and the number of children in secondary tuition schools. Only by applying will you find out if you qualify.

Q

What if my taxes are not done by the February deadline?

A

Just send copies of the prior year’s tax return and the current year’s W-2s/1099s with your PSAS form. You will need to follow up by sending your current year’s tax forms when they are completed.

Q

What is the largest amount of financial aid received?

A

In the past we have awarded between 80 percent and 100 percent of PSAS-assessed need.

Q

When will we know if we will receive financial aid?

A

We try to inform each family of their financial aid by the end of March.

Q

My daughter will be placed on a work-study plan. What does this involve?

A

Your daughter’s hours are based on the amount of the award. She will be assigned to a teacher or office and will assist with various tasks. The hours are flexible, taking into consideration her involvement with extra-curricular activities. She may work during her free period, collaboration period, before or after school. Students with larger scholarships will also work during summer vacation. We have students who are teacher assistants who work for credit only during the school year. There is no distinction between TAs and Work Scholarship students. At the beginning of the year your daughter will meet with the Work Scholarship Coordinator and her job will be determined at that time.

Q

What if my daughter does not do her assigned work?

A

The Work Scholarship Coordinator will discuss this fact with you and your daughter to see if the problem can be resolved. If not, you will be billed for the tuition.

Q

Will my daughter receive this award for all four years?

A

The award is for one year only. You will have to reapply to PSAS every year to qualify for aid. Every effort is made to assist you in the cost of educating your daughter. If you qualify, you will receive aid.

Q

What if I do not qualify through PSAS but circumstances have changed and I feel we do qualify?

A

An appeal can be made in writing, addressed to the principal, and sent to the attention of the Assistant Business Manager. This letter should contain documentation of the change in status. (An example is a lay-off notice). No financial aid will be considered if you are not in the PSAS system.

Q

Are admissions and financial aid kept separate?

A

Once our application packet arrives, the request for financial aid is kept separate. Admission is “need-blind” meaning the admissions committee has no knowledge of who is applying for financial aid and the Assistant Business Manager who handles financial aid has no access to the admission papers.

Q

Do you allow parents to work off tuition?

A

No. Employment and liability issues make this impractical.

Q

What about extra-curricular activities and other expenses?

A

Lantern League, a women’s giving circle hosted by Presentation High School, provides for funds to assist with expenses for clubs, books, athletic and other fees for those who qualify.

Q

What if I have more questions?

A

All questions may be directed to Lisa Bunnell, Assistant Business Manager, at lbunnell@pres-net.com or 408-264-1664, ext. 2431.
