Presentation to host roundtable with NASA scientists

Posted: September 27, 2012

Thanks to the efforts of one Presentation senior, the school will host a roundtable discussion with a panel of NASA scientists on Thursday, Oct. 4.

Fifty students were selected to participate in the discussion, which features four fascinating female scientists from NASA and is being sponsored by the White House.

The event came about after senior Deepika Bodapati participated in a similar event in February in which she learned more about the deterioration of public education in California. "I was learning a lot about what was going on with science policy at the government level," said Deepika, who decided she wanted to do more for education for girls in STEM fields.

“After sending a few emails, I was put into contact with some representatives from the White House about ideas I had for spreading awareness and involvement about the STEM fields, for girls especially,” Deepika said.

Her efforts led to this rare opportunity for Presentation students, which will be held Thursday, Oct. 4, at 1 p.m. in the library.

“We are definitely excited to have them come, and hopefully look forward to similar events in the future,” Deepika said.
