Welcome to the Career Exploration Office! The CEO is a resource for Presentation students that has two main objectives:
- to incorporate more “real-world” experiences into the classroom through guest speakers, career days, job shadowing and internships with local companies
- to assist students in identifying potential careers, college majors and college choices by providing detailed career information before college choices and majors are chosen
The need for the CEO emerged from Presentation’s re-accreditation process in 2007. The faculty wanted to give students a deeper understanding of how their classroom studies translate into the real world. Students were trying to make important decisions about potential colleges without knowing what an engineer really does or if they would be good at it. The CEO offers a solution to these needs. The word “exploration” is key. Some students know what they want to pursue; most do not. Our job is to help narrow choices from many to a few, tailored to each student's interest.
The CEO will offer students a “Career Series” consisting of six to ten workshops beginning late freshman year through senior year. The series includes over ten hours of individual and group workshops beginning with a career-planning overview for freshmen and concluding with a personal college and career plan for seniors. In addition, individual appointments can be scheduled with the CEO to help students to develop resumes, learn interviewing skills and prepare a detailed individual plan for their future.
