About the REACH Program
REACH is an acronym for "Recognizing Excellence, Adversity, Courage and Hard work." Now in its 24th year, the REACH Youth Scholarship Program provides college funds to high school seniors from Santa Clara County who have overcome adversity to excel in the classroom and on the playing field.
The recipients come from all backgrounds and situations. Some students are battling cancer or coping with the loss of a loved one, while others are learning to live with the aftereffects of severe trauma. No two stories are alike, but they share an underlying message: sports can be a source of strength and support in challenging times.
For the past 22 years the program has been co-chaired by Lott and Chastain, who hold an annual banquet to present scholarship awards to winning submissions. Due to COVID-19, the 2020 event is now a special televised event featuring pre-recorded messages from professional athletes and celebrities congratulating the 47 high school students on overcoming the odds to achieve greatness on and off the field. Super Bowl Champion, James Jones was a 2002 REACH Scholarship recipient.
