About Chérie Somavia
Chérie Somavia is the Director of the Office for the Prevention of Student Bullying, Harassment & Abuse. Chérie is a retired police officer with 20 years of law enforcement experience where much of her time was spent working with youth. She holds a Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology and is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist. She brings decades of experience working with youth, community organizations, and diverse populations.
In this role, Chérie is responsible for:
- Facilitating efforts to prevent student bullying, harassment and abuse
- Responding to current students, parents, faculty, and staff who report concerns related to student bullying, harassment, & abuse
- Conducting outreach to students, teachers, staff, and parents to prevent student bullying, harassment, and abuse
- Training students, faculty, and staff on the prevention of student bullying, harassment, and abuse, including mandatory reporting obligations

Students also have the ability to report any incident anonymously through the STOPit app or by placing the information in one of three "Speak Up" boxes on campus.
